The summary of Design for How People Think (Thai version)

This summary isn’t just a straightforward translation — it’s a conversation between one designer (me) and another (the author). At first, I thought I’d just skim and summarize quickly since I’m already familiar with a lot of the content. But once I dug into the case studies, I immediately changed my mind. These real-world examples are valuable lessons that shouldn’t be overlooked.

As a designer, I believe that knowledge from books alone isn’t enough. Even your own work experience isn’t enough. Eventually, you’ll realize that what you need most is the experience of others — seeing perspectives you’ve never encountered, learning from others’ decisions and mistakes, so you don’t have to make them all yourself.

Also, many parts of this book reference American cultural contexts, which may not always match Thai users' behaviors. That’s why I aimed to not just “translate” but also “transform” the content — making it easier to read and more relatable for a Thai audience.

I hope this summary doesn’t just convey knowledge, but also offers a small dose of inspiration to help you look deeper into design — and understand people better.

บทสรุปนี้ไม่ใช่แค่การแปลแบบตรงไปตรงมา แต่เป็นการมองจากมุมมองของนักออกแบบคนหนึ่ง (ผม) ไปยังนักออกแบบอีกคน (ผู้เขียน) ตอนแรกก็คิดว่าจะสรุปแบบย่อ เพราะเนื้อหาหลายส่วนผมค่อนข้างคุ้นเคยอยู่แล้ว แต่พออ่านลึกเข้าไปเจอกรณีศึกษา (case study) ต่างๆ ที่น่าสนใจ ก็เปลี่ยนใจทันที เพราะสิ่งเหล่านี้คือประสบการณ์จริงที่เราไม่ควรมองข้าม

ในฐานะนักออกแบบ ผมเชื่อว่าความรู้จากหนังสือเพียงอย่างเดียวไม่พอ และแม้แต่ประสบการณ์ทำงานของตัวเองก็ไม่พอเช่นกัน ถ้าทำงานไปสักพักคุณจะเริ่มรู้ว่า สิ่งที่คุณต้องการไม่ใช่แค่ประสบการณ์ของตัวเอง แต่คือ ประสบการณ์ของคนอื่น ด้วย เพื่อให้เราเข้าใจมุมที่เราไม่เคยเจอมาก่อน และได้เรียนรู้จากการตัดสินใจหรือความผิดพลาดของคนอื่น ซึ่งช่วยให้เราออกแบบได้ดีขึ้นโดยไม่ต้องลองผิดลองถูกเองทุกครั้ง

อีกอย่าง หนังสือเล่มนี้มีหลายส่วนที่ยกตัวอย่างจากบริบทแบบอเมริกัน ซึ่งอาจจะไม่ตรงกับพฤติกรรมหรือวัฒนธรรมของผู้ใช้งานในไทยนัก ผมจึงพยายามสรุปใหม่ในแบบที่ “แปล” และ “แปลง” ไปพร้อมกัน เพื่อให้เนื้อหาอ่านง่ายขึ้น และเข้ากับมุมมองของผู้อ่านไทยมากที่สุด ผู้สรุป หวังว่าสรุปชุดนี้จะไม่ใช่แค่การถ่ายทอดเนื้อหา แต่จะเป็นแรงบันดาลใจเล็กๆ ให้คุณมองงานออกแบบจากมุมที่ลึกขึ้น และเข้าใจผู้คนมากขึ้นครับ
